“being a pedestrian and tandem cyclist, I would like us to make Winnipeg streets more community friendly. I also believe it is important for residential streets to be safe for everyone, especially since our city stopped putting sidewalks in many bays, drives, closes, circles and crescents.”

“Often, when my children are playing outside, or we are going on one of our daily walks, cars come rushing down the street at very dangerous speeds. Some of these drivers are looking at their phones. Our street is filled with wonderful people but the feeling on the street, because of the speedy cars is unfriendly. If we reduced the speed to 30 the message we are sending is that people matter more than speed, that people matter more than a car culture that exists at the expense of community.”

“Cars drive way too fast down my street day and night. There's a lot of children and free-range cats living in the area, which, combined with cars travelling 50-65 km/hr, is bad news. The noise level from all the cars driving as quickly as they do is also disturbing to the vibe of the neighbourhood.”

“On the two blocks of my street that *should* be 30kph there are two schools, two daycares, a library, a community centre and a military base that runs an active cadet program for youth. It is a designated bicycle route too. There are a lot of kids in our neighbourhood - this is one of the things I love about it. Who needs to get somewhere so fast that they can't spend literally A FEW SECONDS protecting lives? It's two blocks for god's sake... Last year, my dog managed to escape out the front door. He ran into the street and was hit by a car. This car was travelling well under 50kph. He was imjured, but survived and we love him dearly. If that car had been going just a little faster we are certain that he wouldn't be with us. This was my dog. What if it was your dog? What if it was your child?”
– Nathan WildMachray Avenue

“50KPH is far too fast a vehicle speed for a residential street. It feels unsafe (and is not safe) when a car drives by at 50 KPH while you're walking or cycling on the street or (shutter) when kids are walking/cycling/playing on the street.”
